Research
The Aime Lab conducts research on the systematics and biodiversity (in all its guises, from genes to species) of Basidiomycota. Of the 1.5 to 5.1 million (conservatively estimated) species of Fungi believed to be extant, less than 10% have been described. Thus discovery and description of species from underexplored habitats (such as tropical world regions) and lineages (such as earliest diverging Basidiomycota) is one of the main foci of our work. For example, our lab has described ca. 100 new fungal species.
